CBCCT Certification & CBNC Certification and Recertification examinations have been accepted by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) for 20 points (each) in the Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge requirement of ABIM's Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.

ABIM’s MOC credit for passing the exam is part of ABIM's Innovations Pathway pilot program. Individuals who pass a CBCCT or CBNC examination between December 2013 and December 2015 and who are enrolled in ABIM's MOC program may earn these MOC points

CCCVI may be eligible to renew approval for the exams beyond 2015 if ABIM rolls out a permanent approval pathway at the conclusion of the Innovations Pathway pilot.

Please Note: ABIM will begin implementing the new requirements to its MOC program beginning January 1, 2014.   For additional information about ABIM's new MOC program requirements visit http://moc2014.abim.org.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What do I need to do to obtain these points?
A: You must be enrolled in the ABIM MOC program. You must pass a CBCCT or CBNC certification or recertification exam. You must provide us with your six-digit ABIM ID preceded by the letters ABIM (e.g., ABIM123456) and we will submit the information to ABIM.

Q: Then what? Are the points awarded by CBCCT/CBNC or by ABIM?
A: The points are awarded by ABIM.  CBNC (and CBCCT beginning in 2014) will provide ABIM with a list of individuals, identified by their ABIM ID, who passed a CBNC or CBCCT exam (once the scores have been released). ABIM will provide the points within 2 weeks of receiving the information.  It is for this reason that we need your six-digit ABIM ID.   Unfortunately examinations passed prior to December 2013 are not eligible for these points.

Q: Where do I find my ABIM ID?
A: Log in to ABIM’s website, enroll in MOC and your ID will be on your status page. If you are enrolled but cannot find your ID, you can obtain your number through ABIM's online help page: https://www.abim.org/ONLINE/findcand.aspx.

Q: How do I provide my ABIM ID to CBNC or CBCCT?
A: You may fax to: 240-631-8152 or email to cbnc@apca.org or cbcct@apca.org or you may include your ABIM ID on your 2013 CBNC application, either on the Payment page if applying by mail, or in the Comments section if applying online. In future years, the CBCCT and CBNC application forms will include a field for you to include your ABIM ID.

Q: Is there any cost to me from CBCCT or CBNC for this benefit?
A: No, there is not cost from CBCCT or CBNC beyond the regular exam application fee.

Q: Do I need to still take and pass ABIM’s examinations in the areas I am certified in?
A: Yes.  And beginning in 2014, taking those exams will also earn MOC points.
